The Department of Anesthesiology provides clinical anesthesia service for the full range of surgical and obstetrical procedures. Our current faculty includes subspecialty groups with special training in pediatric, obstetric, cardiovascular, thoracic, neurosurgical, and outpatient anesthesia, as well as in Critical Care Medicine, and acute and chronic pain management.
The Department of Anesthesiology is currently expanding and recruiting Academic Anesthesiologists, including those interested in the following subspecialty areas:
Pediatric Anesthesia
Simulation in Anesthesia
Neuro Anesthesia
Regional Anesthesia and Postoperative Pain Management
Clinical & Basic Genomics Research
Critical Care Anesthesia
The Department of Anesthesia provides a specialized anesthesia pediatric service and has an ACGME accredited pediatric anesthesia fellowship program, serving over 8,000 pediatric cases a year, including a large volume of pediatric cardiac and neurosurgery. This service will soon be expanding into a new five-story Childrens Hospital.
Our current Simulation facility has been in operation for over 15 years, and is now planning for a $6 million expansion, making it a university-wide and regional training facility. The new facility, to be completed in early 2009, will include full-scale human patient simulation, procedural skills, and standardized patients for teaching and assessment. Our Simulation program currently holds Level I accreditation from the American College of Surgeons.
The 501-bed Medical Center admits more than 27,000 patients, sees more than 788,000 outpatients, receives nearly 48,000 patients for emergency room visits and performs more than 29,000 surgical procedures.
