Job Description
TWO (2) OR NURSES FOR 40 HOURS A WEEK, UP TO 26 WEEKS
TWO (2) SHIFTS ARE AVAILABLE: 07:00AM - 03:30PM FOR ONE NURSE, AND 09:00AM-05:30PM FOR ANOTHER Two (2.0) full-time registered nurses to provide care to patients in the Operating Room suite for the period of date of award until date of completion. Estimated 1040 hours per nurse. Award may be split into multiple orders.
As an RN assigned to the operating room, the nurse is primarily responsible for applying the nursing process to the care of veteran patients undergoing surgical procedures in the operating room. This includes, but is not limited to, assuring that appropriate documentation reflects assessment of patient needs, interdisciplinary treatment plans, clinical intervention, and evaluation of patients' responses to treatments. The nurse is also responsible for assigning and evaluating the work of non-nursing direct care providers assigned to the operating room. In addition, the nurse demonstrates proficiency in practice based on conscious and deliberate planning and is self-directed in setting goals for managing the care of the adult and geriatric patients, in accordance with the Michigan Nurse Practice Act, Medical Center, VAHQ standards of practice, AORN and AAMI standards. The incumbent provides direct nursing care to individual and groups of patients under the guidance and direction of the OR Manager and assists with the direction and supervision of ancillary personnel.
