Norfolk is nestled in the Elkhorn Valley in Northeast Nebraska, and is surrounded by gently rolling hills. It has a population of more than 24,000 and nearly 35,000 people reside in Madison county. Norfolk is approximately 2 hours from Omaha and Lincoln, and is the ninth largest city in the state. Unemployment is very low. Labor force works in agriculture, manufacturing and in the service industry, which includes retail and wholesale trade, education and healthcare. Retail sales have increased every month since June 1993. Students in Norfolk's school system score considerably higher than the national average on SAT and ACT exam's every year.
