Meet Our Medical Director-Psychiatry: John A. Traylor, MD, MS,
FAACAP
As Medical Director-Psychiatry for LocumTenens.com, Dr. John Traylor reviews the
credentials of psychiatrists applying for assignments through the physician
recruiting firm and represents the agency before fellow physicians at
professional conferences.
Most recently Traylor practiced with Kaiser Permanente Medical Clinics, serving
as Chief of Psychiatry for two years in Richmond, Calif. and for almost six
years in Stockton, Calif. He retired from clinical practice in January 2007.
Traylor served active duty as a medical officer in the United States Army from
June 1964 through December 1991.
A native of Thomaston, Georgia, Traylor earned his medical degree from the
University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. He interned in categorical psychiatry
with Letterman Army Medical Center at the Presidio of San Francisco,
California. Following his licensure by the State of California, Dr. Traylor
completed his psychiatric residency at Letterman Army Medical Center. He
completed a fellowship in child psychiatry at both Langley Porter Psychiatric
Institute (at the University of California’s School of Medicine in San
Francisco) and Letterman Army Medical Center.
Following completion of his medical education and training in 1981, he led
psychiatry departments at the U.S. Army Hospital in Nuremberg, West Germany,
from July 1981 through June 1984. Traylor held psychiatry leadership roles at
Letterman Army Medical Center at the Presidio of San Francisco from mid-1984
through the remainder of his active-duty military service. From July 1984
through his military retirement in 1991 Dr. Traylor also served as assistant
clinical professor with the Psychiatry Department at the University of
California’s School of Medicine in San Francisco.
Before beginning his medical education and training, Dr. Traylor earned a
bachelors degree in engineering from the United States Military Academy in West
Point, New York.
