Pathologist Assistant
Preferred Start Date is Mon Jan 12, 2026 for 3 weeks training.
Contract length minimum term through May 1, 2026 with potential extensions or permanent placement.
M-F; 8x5s; either 8a or 9a start time
We are seeking 4 Pathology Assistants covering two hospitals (Tacoma General and Good Samaritan) in the greater Tacoma Area with normal Mon-Fri shifts.

Asking if there is Histology support -Histology on site at Tacoma General. Full embedding, microtomy, staining, and IHC adjacent to gross room.
Asking if there is another Pathology Assistant there already - PAs work overlapping shifts in adjacent workstations if additional support is needed
What type of cases would be the providers be seeing - complexity? - We have a full range of complexity from incidental biopsies to rarer Whipple cases and colectomies. We are a full service trauma hospital, so there will be complex cases as needed.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Provides anatomic pathology services under the direction and supervision of an anatomic pathologist. Performs a variety of tasks including gross examination and dissection of surgical pathology specimens and performance of postmortem examinations. Additional roles may include biobanking, pathology resident education and training, as well as administrative and supervisory responsibilities.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Gross description, preparation and dissection of surgical specimens of human tissue
• Preparations necessary for human post-mortem examinations
• Instruction in anatomy and physiology
• Education in gross pathology
• Anatomical photography
• Gross dissection skills of surgical specimens
• Standard autopsy techniques
• Participate in ongoing research
• Obtain samples used for bio-specimen banking
• May be required to perform other assigned duties, including administrative, supervisory, budgetary and teaching duties
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
- Knowledge of proper specimen requirement for procedures to be performed, including tissues, fluids and patient diagnostic codes
- Knowledge of medical terminology, specifically Histology and Cytology
- Working knowledge of main frame computers, PCs and Laboratory Information Systems
- Knowledge of safety precautions for working with biohazard, chemicals and sharps
