Anatomic/Clinical Pathology

Pathologist Needed in California – Inpatient Coverage

Job description

We are seeking a board-certified Pathologist for an inpatient locum tenens assignment in California. This role offers scheduled clinical hours with beeper call coverage requiring a 30-minute STEMI response. Providers can expect an average daily case load of 10–15, with a strong emphasis on small GI biopsies and notable GYN pathology (approximately one cancer case per week). Grossing is required.

This is a solo practice position, making it ideal for a physician confident working independently. After-hours calls are extremely rare, and there are no weekend call requirements, providing an excellent work-life balance. Consulting pathologists are available at a nearby sister hospital (~45 minutes away) with courier support to ensure collaborative care when needed.

The facility uses Cerner EMR, and providers will have access to educational and CME opportunities through regular tumor boards and breast pretreatment conferences hosted by Desert Regional Medical Center. Credentialing averages 60 days.

This opportunity is well-suited for a Pathologist who is detail-oriented, efficient with case review, and comfortable managing both routine and complex pathology in an independent setting.

  • Ongoing need with 60-day credentialing
  • Minimal call; no weekends
  • Solo practice with 10–15 cases per day (GI/GYN focus)
