Anesthesiologist Opportunity – High-Acuity Inpatient Surgical Practice

Job description

Join a high-volume inpatient anesthesia service supporting a broad and complex surgical program. This role offers a mix of physician-led and supervision-based anesthesia care with exposure to a wide variety of adult surgical specialties in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Schedule & Coverage Expectations
Weekday daytime schedule with extended shift options available
Minimum multi-week monthly coverage commitment preferred
Additional on-call coverage may be available on a negotiable basis
Call is from home when utilized (not in-house)
Schedule emphasizes continuity and consistent OR coverage across assigned weeks

Clinical Environment
Large acute care hospital with established anesthesia department
Team-based model with CRNA collaboration and supervision structure
Mix of physician-directed cases and supervised anesthesia care
EMR system integrated across perioperative and inpatient workflows

Case Mix & Clinical Scope
High-acuity, broad-spectrum surgical exposure including:
General surgery
Orthopedics (complex cases included)
Neurosurgery and spine
Vascular surgery (complex cases included)
Thoracic surgery (non–open heart)
Obstetrics
Regional anesthesia procedures
Trauma-related surgical care
Select pediatric exposure (not required as primary focus)

Additional procedural responsibilities may include:
Spinal and epidural anesthesia
Peripheral nerve blocks
Central and arterial line placement
Airway and ventilation management
Hemodynamic stabilization and acute volume management
Post-operative pain management techniques

Key Responsibilities
Deliver safe, high-quality anesthesia care across diverse surgical services
Supervise CRNA-administered anesthesia cases when applicable
Perform independent anesthesia care for select surgical cases
Support perioperative planning, induction, maintenance, and recovery phases
Participate in complex case management requiring advanced anesthetic techniques
Ensure accurate, timely clinical documentation and compliance with hospital standards

Requirements
Board Certified in Anesthesiology (required)
Active state medical license (specific state required by facility)
Current ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications
Strong competency in regional anesthesia techniques preferred
Experience managing complex inpatient surgical cases
Ability to work effectively in both supervised and independent settings
Strong communication skills within multidisciplinary teams
