Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist Needed for Flexible Coverage in California

Job description

Aya Locums is seeking Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists for multiple inpatient coverage needs in California beginning September 28, 2026.

Two scheduling structures are available. One option includes two weekends per month followed by onsite coverage the following Monday and Tuesday. The second option includes two weeks of full-time weekday coverage in addition to weekend responsibilities. The final schedule will be discussed with each physician based on availability and the facility’s coverage needs.

Monday and Tuesday coverage runs approximately 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., followed by night call until 8:00 a.m. Weekend rounding generally begins at 8:00 a.m. and takes approximately six hours. After rounding is completed, the psychiatrist remains on call until 8:00 a.m. the following day.

The psychiatrist will care for an adolescent patient population with an anticipated daily volume of approximately 6 to 12 patients. Responsibilities include psychiatric evaluation, medication management, individualized treatment planning, collaboration with parents or guardians, participation in multidisciplinary care, and management of challenging behaviors when needed. Epic is used for documentation.

During night call, the psychiatrist may need to place admission orders for accepted patients who are expected to arrive during the coverage period. The final call schedule and coverage structure will be reviewed with each physician before presentation.

Candidates must be board certified in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, or board certified in General Psychiatry with a completed Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship. An active California license, California DEA with Schedule II/IIN authority, and current BLS certification are required.

Credentialing is expected to take approximately 60 to 90 days. Qualifying assignment-related expenses are covered, and regular compensation, night-call compensation, and callback compensation will be discussed separately based on the final coverage arrangement.

Contact Josh Turner with Aya Locums to discuss the available scheduling options, clinical expectations, and which coverage structure would make the most sense for you.

  • Choose from weekend-based coverage or extended weekday blocks
