Job description
ShareSTAFF is hiring an Adolescent Psychiatrist to serve as Interim Medical Director on an inpatient behavioral health unit at a leading urban safety-net health system in Denver, CO. This high-acuity unit serves adolescent patients ages 12 to 17 with complex, co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders, with a typical census of 13 to 21 patients per shift. The role is approximately 70 to 80 percent clinical and 20 to 30 percent administrative leadership, requiring an experienced physician who can provide unit structure, clinical oversight, and operational guidance during a transition period. The previous Medical Director has departed and a permanent search is underway. Additional psychiatrists and advanced practice providers are expected to onboard in early fall, making an August start ideal for the interim leader. The successful candidate will collaborate with a multidisciplinary inpatient team including nursing, case management, therapists, and operational leadership to ensure continuity of care through the transition.

What You'll Do
-Provide inpatient psychiatric care to adolescent patients (ages 12 to 17) with complex, co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders
-Serve as Interim Medical Director, providing unit leadership, clinical oversight, and operational guidance
-Lead and collaborate with a multidisciplinary inpatient team including nursing, case management, therapists, and operational leadership
-Manage a typical caseload of 13 to 21 patients per shift across high-acuity inpatient cases
-Conduct psychiatric evaluations, develop and adjust treatment plans, and document clinical care in EPIC
-Support the onboarding and integration of incoming psychiatrists and advanced practice providers anticipated in early fall
-Ensure continuity and structural stability for the unit during the Medical Director transition
-Maintain timely, accurate clinical documentation in compliance with state, Joint Commission, and facility standards
What You Bring - Required
-Active, unrestricted medical license in the state of Colorado, or an Interstate Medical Licensure Compact -(IMLC) Letter of Qualification
-Board Certification in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (BC required at time of assignment)
-Demonstrated leadership experience in an inpatient psychiatric or behavioral health setting
-Full-time availability and commitment for the duration of the interim assignment
-Current BLS certification (American Heart Association)
-Proficiency with EPIC EMR
-Must be able to complete client-specific pre-placement requirements
What You Bring - Preferred
-Board Certification or significant clinical experience in Addiction Psychiatry
-Prior Medical Director or interim leadership experience in inpatient behavioral health
-Experience with high-acuity adolescent and dual-diagnosis (psychiatric plus substance use) patient populations
-Familiarity with Joint Commission and state documentation standards in inpatient behavioral health
-CPI, MANDT, NVCI, or Handle With Care certification
