Job description

Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Call coverage required
Average Call Back: Primarily Blood Bank issues (1–2 per week)

Type: Hospital-based (70-bed, Level IV trauma center)

Support Staff:
2 full-time histotechs (gross biopsies & gallbladders, attend FNAs and bone marrows)
Few special stains in-house; IHC performed by LabCorp (images online)
Experienced senior techs across departments
Full-time Lab system director

EMR: Cerner / Paragon

Workload
Daily Cases: Currently 4–5 surgical pathology cases/day
Cytology: ~3–4 cases/week (mostly urology)

Case Mix: GI, GYN, breast biopsies, occasional skin cancer (melanomas sent out), small excisions, ditzels
Cytology: Urines, bronchial washes/brushes, pleural/ascitic fluids
Special Procedures: Occasional frozen sections
Hematology: Peripheral smear reviews only (rare); no flow cytometry or bone marrow sign out; rare lymphoma cases sent out

Pediatric cases are limited (tonsils, appendices, rare smear reviews)

Credentialing Timeframe: ~60 days
