Assignment Details

Specialty: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) – NP/APP

Location: Palo Alto, CA

Setting: Hospital

Schedule: Full-time, 3 × 12-hour shifts per week (36 hours/week)

Shift Options: 6:00 AM–6:00 PM or 6:00 PM–6:00 AM

Rotation: Days, nights, and weekends

Coverage: Approximately 12–14 shifts per month

Hospital Size: 167 beds

Clinical Responsibilities

Assess, diagnose, treat, and manage complex cardiovascular patients

Conduct physical examinations and order diagnostic testing, medications, labs, and blood products

Assist with admissions, discharges, and emergency interventions

Perform designated procedures based on demonstrated competency

Collaborate with supervising physicians, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary teams

Requirements

Previous CVICU experience required, ideally within a cardiac surgery program comparable to Stanford

Active California RN and NP licenses

NP Furnishing Number (NPF)

BLS certification required

The ideal candidate will have strong clinical judgment, be comfortable managing complex patients independently, and work collaboratively within established clinical workflows. Flexibility, adaptability, strong communication, and the ability to recognize clinical deterioration and escalate care appropriately are essential.
