A locum tenens opportunity is available for a Nurse Practitioner (NP) in Critical Care Medicine beginning August 1, 2026, at a high-acuity academic medical center. This role functions as a critical care “responding clinician” in the ICU, providing support for adult and geriatric patients in a structured, physician-supervised environment. The assignment includes a full-time day/night rotation with rotating weekends and holidays.
About the facility:
This is a large academic acute care teaching hospital with a 10-bed ICU and an average daily census of approximately 7 patients. The ICU cares for adult patients with select geriatric cases and a limited number of burn patients.

‣ Clinical Scope
‣ General ICU and med-surg level care
‣ 1-2 burn patients occasionally
‣ NP responsibilities include:
Morning ICU rounding with attending
◦ Task completion during the day
◦ Afternoon rounding and follow-up care
‣ Explicit exclusions (no procedures):
◦ No intubations
◦ No central or arterial lines
◦ No ventilator management
◦ No transplants
◦ No echocardiography
◦ No neuro head cases
◦ No EVD placements
◦ No complex stroke management
Compensation:
‣ Pay Rate: $120/Hr. Details can be discussed further after applying to the job posting.

Local candidates only (within 60-mile radius)

Job Responsibilities:
‣ Provide ICU-level support as a critical care NP responding clinician
‣ Participate in daily ICU rounding with attending physicians
‣ Assist in care coordination and task management for ICU patients
‣ Support ICU workflow during day and night rotations
‣ Work rotating weekends and holidays (minimum 2 weekends/month)
‣ Function under physician supervision in a teaching hospital ICU
‣ Document and chart in Epic EMR
‣ Provide continuity of care across shift transitions
Qualifications:
‣ Nurse Practitioner (NP) - required
‣ Board Certified in Critical Care - required
‣ Active Massachusetts license - required (no licensing support available)
‣ ACLS or BLS certification - required
‣ DEA required
‣ Minimum 2 years of ICU/critical care experience required
‣ Must be eligible for credentialing (approx. 90 days)
‣ Must be a local candidate (no travel support provided)
Working Hours:
‣ Coverage Type: Full-time with rotating schedule
‣ Shift Length: 13-hour shifts
‣ Shift Times:
6:00 AM – 7:00 PM (day shift)
6:00 PM – 7:00 AM (night shift)
‣ Schedule: Day/night rotation
‣ Weekend Requirement: Minimum 2 weekends per month
‣ Holiday Coverage: Rotational
‣ Call: No formal call requirement
‣ Overtime: Paid after 40 hours/week

Skills:
‣ Strong ICU clinical judgment and critical care decision-making
‣ Experience managing adult ICU and med-surg level patients
‣ Ability to function as a non-procedural ICU clinician
‣ Competence in:
◦ ICU rounding and care coordination
◦ Monitoring and managing stable to moderately complex ICU patients
◦ Task prioritization in academic ICU environments
‣ Proficiency with Epic EMR
