Job description
Location: Massachusetts (Teaching Hospital)
Facility Type: Acute Care, ICU Unit
EMR: Epic
Beds: 7 currently, expanding to 10 by January
Average Daily Census: 7 patients
Patient Population: Adult only
Schedule & Coverage
Start Date: August 25, 2025
Shift Length: 3 x 13-hour shifts per week (6:00–19:00 or 18:00–07:00)
Coverage Type: Scheduled only, no call
Shift Rotation:
50% Days / 50% Nights
Includes weekends: 4 weekend shifts per schedule (Friday nights count as weekend)
Must be available for day, night, and weekend shifts
No days-only providers accepted
Job Duties & Clinical Scope
Type of Care:
Standard ICU and Med-Surg cases
May include 1–2 burn patients
No intubations, lines, ventilators, ECHOs, head trauma, EVDs, complex neuro/stroke, or transplants
Procedures: None. This is a non-procedural “responding clinician” role
Daily Workflow:
Round with attending in the morning
Perform clinical tasks independently
Afternoon re-rounding
Support Structure:
4 APPs on staff
Supervised by MD during day shifts and by fellow or attending at night
Providers must be comfortable functioning with some independence
Requirements
Active Massachusetts PA License required (no NPs)
Must already hold MA license (licensing not available for this role)
Board Certification required
BLS and ACLS certifications required
DEA license required
Minimum 2 years of experience in ICU/critical care settings
Credentialing Timeframe: 60–90 days
Travel: No travel support provided. Local candidates only (must be able to commute by car or subway)
Overtime: Paid for hours worked beyond 40 per week
