A locum tenens opportunity is available for a Physician (MD/DO) in Critical Care Medicine beginning August 24, 2026. This role is based in a high-acuity ICU setting with primarily PRN night and weekend coverage needs. The physician will support an established critical care team by supervising internal medicine residents and providing ICU-level management for adult patients.

This is a 20-bed adult Intensive Care Unit (ICU) within a large acute care hospital. The ICU typically runs a census of 16–19 patients, with slightly lower weekend volumes due to additional attending coverage.

Job Responsibilities:
‣ Provide critical care management for adult ICU patients
‣ Supervise internal medicine residents in the ICU setting
‣ Manage ICU census of approximately 16-19 patients (varies by shift)
‣ Provide coverage for PRN gaps in scheduling (nights and weekends)
‣ Work collaboratively with ICU team including residents and attendings
‣ Perform procedures when residents are unavailable (as needed)
‣ Utilize Epic EMR for documentation and charting
‣ Ensure continuity of care during night, weekend, and swing shifts
Qualifications:
‣ Board Certified in Critical Care Medicine - required
‣ Active Massachusetts medical license - required (no licensing support available)
‣ ACLS and BLS certification - required
‣ Minimum 1 year of ICU/critical care experience required
‣ Must be eligible for credentialing (approx. 90 days target timeframe)
‣ Must be a local candidate (no travel support provided)
Working Hours:
‣ Coverage Type: PRN (as-needed scheduling)
‣ Shift Length: 13-hour shifts
‣ Shift Times:
‣ Nights: 7:00 PM - 8:00 AM
‣ Weekends:
7:00 PM - 8:00 AM
8:00 AM - 7:00 PM
2:00 PM - 12:00 AM (swing shifts)
‣ Schedule: Nights and rotating weekends only (no fixed full-time block)
‣ Call: No formal call requirement
‣ Overtime: Paid at same hourly rate after 40 hours/week

Skills:
‣ Strong ICU critical care clinical decision-making
‣ Ability to manage high-acuity adult ICU patients independently

Ventilated and critically ill patient management
