📍 Position Overview
A high-volume hospital-based radiology department in Long Beach, CA is seeking a Board-Certified Diagnostic Radiologist (Body Imaging highly preferred) for ongoing weekend coverage.
This is an onsite-only opportunity supporting two nearby hospitals. While the primary patient population is adult and geriatric, radiologists must be comfortable reading all cases that present through the ED, including pediatric trauma, MRI, and CT.
Prostate MRI experience is highly preferred.
🗓️ Schedule & Coverage
Minimum Requirement: 2 weekends per month
Shifts: Saturday & Sunday
Hours: 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM (2x10s)
No call
Onsite
There is additional radiology support from 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Some shorter shifts may be available, but the primary need is the full 10-hour shift
⚠️ Radiologists are expected to:
Read everything that comes in during their shift
Leave no unfinished work for the next radiologist
Weekend shifts are high-volume and busy.
📊 Clinical Details
Average Volume:
Weekdays: 130–140 studies/day
Weekends: 150–180 studies/day
Modalities:
CT (heavier volume)
Plain films (heavier volume)
MRI
Ultrasound
❌ No nuclear medicine
❌ No cardiac
❌ No breast imaging
Case Mix:
Primarily Adults (18+) and Geriatrics
Some pediatric overflow cases
Must read ED cases including:
Pediatric trauma
MRI
CT
Prostate MRI experience strongly preferred
Body Imaging background preferred
Annual Productivity Reference:
Adult diagnostic radiologists average ~14,000 wRVUs per year

Connected facilities
Full-time pediatric radiologists onsite M–F (daytime only); weekends require ED radiologist to read all incoming studies

Board Certified – Required
Unrestricted California License – Required
DEA – Required
BLS or ACLS – Required
CSR – Not required
Minimum 1+ year of experience
Must be comfortable with high-volume ED workflow
Must commit to minimum 2 weekends per month
