Job Title: Emergency Medicine Physician (ABEM / ABFM / IM)

Location: Crownpoint, New Mexico

Facility: Crownpoint Indian Health Service (IHS) Hospital

Positions Available: 8

Compensation:

ABEM Physicians: $310/hour

IM/ABFM Physicians: $270/hour

Position Overview

Crownpoint Indian Health Service (IHS) Hospital in Crownpoint, New Mexico, is seeking two physicians to provide Emergency Department coverage. Board-certified or board-eligible Emergency Medicine physicians (ABEM) and Internal Medicine or Family Medicine physicians (IM/ABFM) with at least two years of recent Emergency Room experience will be considered.

This opportunity offers a relatively low-volume Emergency Department with fewer than one patient per hour on average. Although the facility does not have a designated trauma level, physicians should be prepared to evaluate and manage occasional trauma cases.

On-site housing is available.

Schedule

Multiple 12-hour shifts are available:

8:00 AM – 8:00 PM

9:00 AM – 9:00 PM

10:00 AM – 10:00 PM

12:00 PM – 12:00 AM

8:00 PM – 8:00 AM

The facility requires approximately 60 physician coverage hours per day.

Qualifications

Active, unrestricted medical license from a U.S. state.

Board-certified or board-eligible in Emergency Medicine (ABEM), or board-certified/eligible in Internal Medicine (IM) or Family Medicine (ABFM).

IM/ABFM physicians must have at least two years of recent Emergency Room experience.

Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.

Current ATLS certification required, with an exemption for ABEM board-certified physicians.

Strong emergency assessment, clinical decision-making, and patient stabilization skills.

Ability to manage occasional trauma cases and coordinate transfers when higher-level care is required.

Responsibilities

Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients presenting with acute illnesses, injuries, and emergency medical conditions.

Perform examinations and order diagnostic tests as indicated.

Provide emergency treatment and stabilize patients when necessary.

Assess and manage trauma cases within the facility's capabilities.

Coordinate referrals and transfers for patients requiring specialized care.

Collaborate with nursing staff and other healthcare professionals.

Maintain accurate clinical documentation using the facility's electronic medical record system.

Provide culturally respectful care to Native American communities.

Additional Details

Setting: Rural Indian Health Service hospital.

Patient Volume: Fewer than one patient per hour on average.

Trauma Designation: No designated trauma level; occasional trauma cases may occur.

Housing: On-site housing available.

Airport Access: Approximately a two-hour drive from Albuquerque International Airport.

Credentialing Timeline: Approximately 6–8 weeks.
