Facility Type: Rural Critical Access Hospital | 8-Bed ED
Assignment Dates: July 1, 2026 – August 31, 2026 (Parental Leave Coverage)
Shift Schedule: Monday – Friday (Varied shifts; No weekends or on-call)
Morning: 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Long Shift: 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM
Evening: 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM
Position Overview
We are seeking an Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant (PA) for a seasonal locum assignment in a collaborative Critical Access setting. This role is designed for a clinician who thrives in a team-based environment, working alongside a group of 10 ED physicians. The provider will support a high-volume summer patient load, focusing on efficient triage and high-quality emergency care for a diverse population.
Clinical Environment & Volume
Daily Volume: Average of 45 patients per day.
Acuity: ~80% hospital admission rate from the ED; 6% daily admission and 6% daily transfer rates.
Patient Population: Full spectrum care (Pediatric through Geriatric), with a skew toward an older/geriatric demographic.
Key Responsibilities
Emergency Care: Assess, evaluate, and stabilize patients of all ages presenting with acute illnesses or injuries.
Diagnostics: Perform and interpret EKG results as the primary provider.
EMS Coordination: Monitor and supervise local paramedics via radio communications.
Code Response: The ED staff responds to all unit codes; the APP is not required to respond to house-wide codes (Physician only).
Obstetrics: Deliveries are routed directly to Labor & Delivery; the ED focus remains on emergent stabilization.

Surgical: 24/7 Anesthesia and Operating Room availability with on-site General Surgery.
Specialty Consults: On-site access to Cardiology, Critical Care, Pulmonology, GI, Neurology, Urology, Psychiatry, and Hematology/Oncology.
EMR: Fully integrated EPIC system.
Requirements & Qualifications
Education: Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant program.
Certification: NCCPA Board Certification (REQUIRED).
Licensure: Active and unrestricted Massachusetts State License.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years of dedicated Emergency Medicine experience (No new graduates).
Credentials: Active DEA and ACLS certifications; must meet all criteria for Allied Health Professional membership.
Background: Clean professional record (NPDB Self-Query required at time of presentation).
