Locum Emergency Medicine Physician | 2-Hospital Float | San Leandro & Alameda, CA | Nights & Swings, No Call

Job description

Start: February 1, 2027 (or as soon as credentialed)
Length: 13 weeks (ongoing)
Coverage: Emergency department float coverage across two community hospitals in San Leandro and Alameda, CA
Schedule: About 10 shifts per month; 9-hour shifts (8 hours clinical + 1 hour admin); mids, swings, and nights with highly variable start times; predominantly nights and swings (day-only availability not considered)
Call: No call
Volume: Average 1.3 patients/hour, up to 2/hour at peak; about 13–16 patients per shift
Practice Setting: Community hospital emergency departments
Procedures: Intubation, central lines, and management of coding patients in the ED or on the floor

• Emergency evaluation, treatment, and disposition; providers share all patients (no fast track)
• ED nursing support with backup for code blue and critical procedures
• On-call anesthesia and intensivist backup
• Transfer center manages transfers to local trauma centers
• Dictation available; documentation in Epic

Requirements
• ABEM Board Certified (Board Eligible considered)
• Active California license required
• California DEA with Schedule 2/2N required
• Minimum 1 year of experience (2 years strongly preferred)
• Must be available for nights and swings
• 1–2 Zoom interviews
• Credentialing: approximately 90 days
