POSITION OVERVIEW

A locum tenens opportunity is available for Board-Certified Emergency Medicine Physicians in Mason City, Iowa. This position offers open shift coverage in a busy Emergency Department with both 9- and 12-hour shifts available.

The team is seeking providers who can cover a significant number of available shifts, with approximately 15 open shifts per month on average.


SCHEDULE

Open FTE / open shift coverage

9- and 12-hour shifts

Day and night shifts available

No call

Approximately 15 open shifts per month

Providers able to cover multiple open shifts are preferred


EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT DETAILS

Average ED volume: approximately 77 patients/day

Approximately 33,000 annual visits

250-bed hospital

Level III Trauma Center

1–2 physicians covering daytime hours

1 physician covering nighttime hours

1–2 Advanced Practice Providers

Physician supervision of APPs required

Busiest period: approximately 11 AM–11 PM

Less than 3% of patients transferred out

Teaching hospital

No inpatient responsibilities

No outreach responsibilities

AVAILABLE SHIFTS

Open shifts include a combination of:

7:00 AM – 7:00 PM

7:00 PM – 7:00 AM

5:00 PM – 2:00 AM

8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Open dates currently extend from November 2026 through January 2027, with additional shifts available on a first-come, first-served basis.


REQUIREMENTS

Board Certified in Emergency Medicine – ABEM required

Active Iowa medical license or IMLC

ATLS required for trauma privileges

Clean background

Ability to obtain privileges quickly

Providers should have a work history that allows for efficient credentialing

Must be able to cover a significant number of available shifts

Clean professional history preferred


COMPENSATION

Hourly Rate: Up to $350/hour

Holiday Hourly: Available

Orientation: Required as applicable
