Job description
Richmond Gastroenterology Associates is seeking experienced Nurse Practitioners and/or Physician Assistants to join our growing team of GI Providers. Our APPs provide patient evaluation, care, and treatment in both an office and hospital setting.
The Primary Job Functions are:
Performs initial or follow-up evaluation and management of patients with acute or chronic GI conditions.
Obtains patient histories and performs physical examinations.
Orders appropriate medical treatment to include medications, medical devices, intravenous fluids, laboratory/diagnostic studies, procedures, or physical therapy.
Utilizes differential diagnoses and recommends appropriate interventions.
Provides counseling and coordination of care.
Provides physician support by addressing tasks including patient phone calls and following up with results as needed.
The APP may treat the following, but is not limited to:
Diarrhea, constipation, indigestion, gas, and abdominal pain.
Inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, Lymphocytic, and Collagenous Colitis).
Chronic liver disease (Cirrhosis, hepatitis, and complications including ascites, liver cancer, NASH/NAFLD).
Esophageal disease and gastroesophageal reflux disease, including problems with swallowing, Barrett’s esophagus, and esophageal cancer.
Motor disorder of the gut, including incomplete defecation, constipation, diarrhea, and gastroparesis.
Diseases of the gallbladder and bile duct, including stones, tumors, and strictures.
Colon polyps, patients referred for screening of colon cancer, and genetic disorders involving colon cancer.
Pancreatic disease, including acute and chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic neoplasms, and assessment of pancreatic imaging abnormalities.
Anorectal disorders, including fissures and hemorrhoids.
Nutritional deficiencies, including complications of gastric bypass, and feeding difficulties due to stroke or other illness.
Invasive procedures performed by the APP may include:
PEG exchanges/removals
SC and IM injections
Wound care/dressing changes
Minor suturing/suture removal
Hemorrhoid therapy
NG/NJ placement
QUALIFICATIONS & CERTIFICATIONS:
5+ Years of healthcare experience, with Advanced Practice Provider experience preferred.
Master’s level education required.
APP Certification Requirements:
Current Virginia State License with the state governing body (BOM, BON)
Current Certification through a national licensing organization (ANCC, NCCPA)
DEA License
BLS/ACLS Certification
Ability to adapt to changing healthcare environments and to lead by example.
MENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to work well under pressure with diverse groups of professionals and physicians.
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
Must demonstrate sensitivity to cultural differences within the team and community.
Work may involve prolonged periods of sitting, standing, reaching, and the ability to push or pull items weighing 30 pounds or less.
