Facility:
This facility is a Level II Trauma Center providing comprehensive trauma and surgical services to the Northern California region. The facility features strong provider support with a dedicated trauma team, including a day shift Trauma NP/PA counterpart, and utilizes Cerner Care B as its EMR system.

Nurse Practitioner - Surgery - Trauma
Job Details:
- Provide Trauma Service APP coverage at a Level II Trauma Center during PM shifts (3 p.m. to 1 a.m.)
- Manage a daily patient census of 20-25 patients on the Trauma Service with few to zero pediatric patients
- Take patient histories, perform physical exams, make assessments and diagnoses, and initiate, review, and revise treatment and therapy plans
- Order x-rays, studies, therapeutic diets, physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, and nursing services
- Order, perform, or assist in the performance of lab procedures, screening procedures, and therapeutic procedures
- Recognize and evaluate situations requiring immediate physician attention and institute life-saving treatment procedures when necessary
- Instruct and counsel patients regarding physical and mental health topics including medications, diets, and long-term disease management
- Initiate arrangements for admissions, complete medical record forms and charts, and provide continuing care services
- Facilitate referrals of patients to appropriate health facilities, agencies, and community resources
- Administer medications or transmit prescriptions as directed by supervising physician
- Support the on-call trauma surgeon and take responsibility for monitoring, managing, and discharging all patients on the trauma service
- Required procedures include: local anesthesia, laceration repair, dressing changes, drain removal, suture removal, wound debridement and closure, basic management of non-displaced fractures, removal of superficial foreign bodies, hemostasis, incision and drainage, cervical spine clearance, chest tube insertion and removal, burn management (partial thickness less than 10%), arterial line insertion, fracture reductions, reduction of simple dislocations, and central line insertion
- Must have active California NP license with CA NP furnishing number
- ANCC Certification required
- CA DEA, ACLS, ATLS, and BLS required
- Must be actively working at a TJC-accredited hospital
- Trauma and/or Critical Care experience required
- Estimated credentialing timeframe: 15-30 days upon receipt of fully completed application
Compensation:
Competitive hourly rates with weekly pay and malpractice included.
