Facility:
This is a Level II Trauma Center serving the Northern California region, providing comprehensive trauma and surgical services to the community. The facility offers strong provider support with an established trauma team structure, including dedicated day shift APP coverage and oversight from an experienced trauma medical director.

Nurse Practitioner - Surgery - Trauma

Job Details:

  • Provide Trauma Service APP (NP or PA) coverage during PM shifts (3 p.m. to 1 a.m.) at a Level II Trauma Center
  • Monitor, manage, and discharge patients on the trauma service with an average daily patient census of 20-25 patients
  • Take patient histories, perform physical exams, make assessments and diagnoses, and initiate, review, and revise treatment and therapy plans
  • Order or transmit orders for x-ray, lab procedures, therapeutic diets, physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, and nursing services
  • Recognize and evaluate emergency situations requiring immediate physician attention and institute life-saving treatment procedures when necessary
  • Instruct and counsel patients regarding physical and mental health, including medications, diets, and long-term disease management
  • Initiate arrangements for admissions, complete medical record forms and charts, and coordinate continuing care services
  • Initiate and facilitate referrals to appropriate health facilities, agencies, and community resources
  • Administer or transmit medication orders and prescriptions in accordance with supervising physician direction
  • Support the trauma surgeon on call and collaborate with one additional Trauma NP/PA covering day shift (7 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
  • Required procedures include: local anesthesia, laceration repair, dressing changes, drain removal, suture removal, wound debridement and closure, basic management of non-displaced fractures, removal of superficial foreign bodies, hemostasis, incision and drainage, cervical spine clearance, chest tube insertion and removal, burn management (partial thickness less than 10%), arterial line insertion, fracture reductions, reduction of simple dislocations, and central line insertion
  • EMR system: Cerner
  • Trauma/Critical Care experience required; few to zero pediatric patients on service
  • Must hold an active California license; NPs must have a CA NP furnishing number and completion of CA CSEC
  • NCCPA or AACN certification required
  • ACLS, ATLS, BLS, and CA DEA required
  • Must be actively working at a TJC-accredited hospital
  • Clean malpractice and background required
  • Estimated credentialing timeframe: 15-30 days upon receipt of fully completed application

Compensation:
Competitive hourly rates with weekly pay and malpractice included.
