Job description

TinkBird Healthcare Staffing is seeking a Board-Certified General Surgeon to provide locum tenens call coverage at a community hospital in eastern North Carolina. Providers will be required to complete orientation the day before or the morning of their first scheduled shift.

Coverage Dates
24-Hour Call Coverage Needed
September 25, 2026 (7:00 AM) – September 28, 2026 (7:00 AM)

Position Details
Inpatient and outpatient coverage
24-hour call coverage
Nights and weekends required
Established practice with existing surgeon support
Emergency Department consult coverage as needed
Locum physician will not respond to codes

Clinical Volume
Approximately 65 surgical cases per month
Established surgical practice
Broad spectrum general surgery coverage

Community hospital setting
49 inpatient beds
9-bed Emergency Department
4-bed Fast Track unit
3 Operating Rooms

Support staff includes:
2 Physicians
1 Nurse

Required Procedures
Appendectomy
Cholecystectomy
Bowel obstruction management
Incision and drainage procedures
Upper endoscopy (EGD)
Amputations
Strangulated hernia repair

Additional Procedures
Colonoscopy experience preferred; however, colonoscopy is not required for this weekend coverage assignment

Requirements
Board-Certified General Surgeon
Comfortable providing inpatient and outpatient surgical coverage
ICU/Critical Care procedures required
Experience managing emergency surgical consults
Practice Environment
Community-based surgical practice
Collaborative clinical team
Broad general surgery case mix
Inpatient and outpatient responsibilities
Emergency Department consultation coverage during call
