Bone Marrow Transplant PA – San Diego, CA | High-Acuity Inpatient Hem/Onc + No Night Call
Job description
Ready to take your Hematology/Oncology experience to the next level in sunny San Diego? A leading academic medical center in La Jolla, CA is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant for an inpatient Blood and Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) locum tenens assignment.
This is an excellent opportunity for a PA with BMT experience or an extensive inpatient Hematology/Oncology background who enjoys working with complex patient populations. The hospitalist team handles overnight coverage, so no night call is required.
Start Date: 11/2/2026
Contract Length: 3–6 months
Schedule:
• (3) 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM–7:30 PM
• Unit operates Monday–Sunday
• Weekend shifts may be required
• No night shifts or overnight call
Practice Setting:
• Inpatient Blood and Bone Marrow Transplant Unit
• Acute Care Hospital
• Academic medical environment
Patients per Day: Approximately 10–12
Clinical Responsibilities:
• Manage patients with hematologic malignancies and blood cancers
• Provide care for patients undergoing bone marrow and cellular transplantation
• Manage post-transplant complications and disease relapse
• Conduct inpatient rounds and coordinate multidisciplinary care
• Perform admissions, discharges, and ongoing patient management
• Address complex comorbidities in hospitalized oncology patients
Support Staff: 4 additional APPs participating in daily rounds; Hospitalist team providing overnight coverage
EMR: Epic
Requirements:
• Physician Assistant with inpatient Hematology/Oncology or BMT experience
• Active California PA license required (no licensing offered)
• BLS, ACLS, and NRP required
• Must have BMT experience or extensive inpatient Hematology/Oncology experience
• Experience managing complex hematologic malignancies and transplant patients
Preferred Experience:
• Bone Marrow Transplant and cellular therapy
• Hospitalist or inpatient acute care experience
• Management of complex post-transplant complications and comorbidities
Credentialing Timeframe: Approximately 45–60 days
We pay weekly, cover malpractice insurance, and handle credentialing in-house!
- 3–6 month assignment in beautiful coastal San Diego
- Specialized inpatient BMT and malignant hematology experience in a collaborative APP team
- 12-hour day shifts with no overnight call responsibilities
