NEW Medical Oncology Opportunity – Inpatient Leadership Role with Hematology Focus
Job description
A board-certified Medical Oncologist with hematology experience is needed for a locum tenens assignment in a large, well-established acute care hospital. This opportunity offers a mix of inpatient leadership responsibilities and optional outpatient support in a collaborative, high-resource environment.
Position Overview:
Specialty: Medical Oncology / Hematology
Start Date: As soon as credentialed
Assignment Length: 13 weeks (flexible, ongoing potential)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Call: Required (overnight and weekends, taken from home)
Practice Setting
Acute Care Hospital
Large facility with approximately 590 beds
Inpatient-focused oncology service with optional outpatient coverage
Collaborative, team-based care model with strong specialist support
Clinical Responsibilities:
Lead the inpatient medical oncology service
Manage new consults and follow-up care for oncology and hematology patients
Provide care for malignant and benign oncology cases
Oversee and supervise Advanced Practice Providers
Ensure timely, same-day documentation
Patient & Case Details:
Patient Volume: Approximately 20–25 patients per day
Patient Population: Adults and geriatrics
Clinical Focus:
Inpatient malignant oncology
Full-spectrum hematology consults
Optional outpatient hematology/oncology coverage
Call Structure:
Week-long call blocks (e.g., Monday to Monday)
Overnight call handled from home
Call volume is generally low, supported by nurse triage and hospitalist teams
Call limited to medical oncology-related issues
Team Structure:
Supported by Advanced Practice Providers (weekday and weekend coverage)
Access to hospitalists and nurse triage services
Collaborative multidisciplinary oncology team
Requirements:
Board Certified in Medical Oncology and Hematology
Active state medical license (or eligible via IMLC)
Minimum of 2 years of experience
Proficiency with Epic EMR
BLS or ACLS certification required
DEA required
Strong inpatient oncology and hematology experience required
Additional Information
Credentialing timeframe: Approximately 90 days
