Job description

About the facility

This hospital provides specialized hematology and oncology services across inpatient and outpatient settings within a structured on-site clinical environment. The facility maintains established clinical protocols and workflows to support coordinated oncologic care delivery throughout the covered assignment period. Clinical resources are in place to facilitate quality hematologic and oncologic care on a locum tenens basis.

About the facility location

South Carolina offers clinicians on assignment access to a range of historical, cultural, and outdoor attractions suited to varied interests. Outdoor enthusiasts will find scenic state parks with waterfalls, hiking trails, and historic harbor areas, providing diverse leisure opportunities during time away from clinical duties.

About the clinician's workday

A full-time locum Hematology/Oncology physician is needed immediately to support a vacancy, providing a combination of outpatient, inpatient, and call coverage. The first patient appointment begins at 8:15 a.m., and the physician will treat adult patients only. Candidates must be board certified in Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology, and Hematology and hold an active South Carolina license, CSR, and DEA that can be registered in South Carolina. Current physicians see approximately 28-30 patients per day in clinic, though the locum can begin with at least 10 patients per day and gradually ramp up over the first four weeks. Call will be approximately 1:3, with flexibility available, and can typically be managed by phone, with onsite visits generally limited to new consults. While on call, the physician will also oversee the infusion area and must remain onsite while patients are receiving chemotherapy, typically until around 5:00-5:30 p.m. APPs maintain their own outpatient patient panels and do not provide inpatient coverage. Additional support includes oncology nurse navigators, nurse educators, breast nurse navigators, and lung nurse navigators. EPIC is utilized for documentation, and the facility is seeking one full-time locum physician for this need.
