Position Summary
A community-based oncology practice in the New Ulm, MN area is seeking a full-time Locum Tenens Medical Oncologist to provide broad outpatient medical oncology and hematology care. The role is based in a connected outpatient clinic and 11-station infusion center within an integrated regional cancer network. Immediate availability (targeting December coverage) is highly preferred, with long-term coverage options extending through 2027.
Clinical Overview & Practice Details
Practice Setting: Outpatient Infusion & Medical Oncology Clinic (5 exam rooms; 9 open infusion chairs, 2 private treatment rooms, 2 fast-track triage rooms).
Patient Volume: 13 – 20 patients per day.
Scope of Practice: Full-spectrum solid tumor and hematology management (new consults, chemotherapy oversight, immunotherapy, supportive therapies, and disease management). No radiation oncology required (radiation partners located nearby).
In-House Diagnostics & Services: Onsite Imaging (PET, PSMA PET, CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Nuc Med), Laboratory for blood draws, Palliative Care, Cancer Rehab, and Clinical Trials access via dedicated research RN.
Clinical Support Staff: Dedicated Oncology Nurse Navigator, Clinic RNs, LPNs/CMAs, Infusion RN team, Research RN, Social Worker, Dietitian, Mental Health support, and Centralized Prior Authorization team. APP support is currently being added.
EMR / Charting: Electronic Health Record with an expected 24-hour completion timeframe for clinical notes.
Interview Process: Interviews conducted directly by the Regional Executive Leadership, Medical Director, and Clinic Director.
Submission & Candidate Requirements
Licensure: Active Minnesota State Medical License OR active IMLC Compact Letter of Qualification (LOQ) in hand [REQUIRED]. Facility is willing to assist with licensing/emergency privileges for fast-track start.
Board Certification: Board Certified or Eligible in Medical Oncology / Hematology [REQUIRED].
Availability: Strong preference for full-time (1 FTE) long-term availability; open to splitting coverage between two locum providers if needed. High priority for December coverage.
Credentialing Timeline: Standard timeline is 90–120 days (target start date Nov 9/Dec), with emergency/fast-track privileges available for qualified candidates.
Travel Reimbursement Caps & Rules
Airfare: Economy airfare only (up to 2 roundtrips per month; rates over $1,000/roundtrip require prior approval).
Lodging: Up to $200/night (including taxes/parking) OR up to $4,500 total/month for long-term rentals (Airbnb/VRBO) with receipts.
Rental Car / Gas: Standard/Economy rental car up to $100/day. SUV approval allowed during winter months ($100/day cap). Reasonable gas for commuting and airport travel is reimbursable (must fill tank prior to return).
Mileage Alternative: Standard mileage reimbursement provided in lieu of rental car/flights for local drive-in candidates.
Baggage & Parking: Standard baggage fees and economy airport/hotel parking covered (no premium/black car services or extra sports equipment baggage fees).
