A proposed final rule was submitted for public comment in May, and physicians, hospitals and other healthcare organizations weighed in with proposed changes and concerns. Due to the feedback, CMS Acting Administrator Andy Slavitt revealed the agency is considering delaying the start of MACRA.

How will MACRA affect you or your career? Do you think it should be postponed?

New App Could Help Hospitalists Avoid Readmission Penalties

A new mobile app called Post Discharge Treatment and Readmission Predictor could help reduce hospital readmission rates, saving both the hospital and the physician readmission payment penalties. The readmission risk rate is determined based on a prediction model that is 20 percent more accurate than traditional models. The app also allows the patient to communicate directly with the doctor, which allows this doctor to analyze the latest information provided by the patient to determine a new readmission rate.
