Nominations Now Open for MedicalMissions.org's Physician of the Year Award
Through the daily work we do with thousands of doctors like you, we know you are a giving group. To honor the contributions you make, we are sponsoring the MedicalMissions.org Physician of the Year Award to honor physicians who give back in their community and around the world through medical missions work. Two honorees (for domestic and international service) will be selected. Each honoree will receive $10,000 to donate to his or her chosen medical mission-centered organization. Hospitalists Growing in Number Each Year
Each year, more and more hospitals are adopting hospitalist programs as physicians increasingly come out of residency searching for hospitalist positions. The number of hospitalists in the U.S. has quadrupled since 2003, according to the Society of Hospital Medicine. The work is challenging but the hours are desirable. As patients become more accepting of this relatively new role in their care, healthcare delivery is improving. As long as the hospitalist communicates well with the primary care physician, the care is seamless.

How is the ICD-10 implementation going so far?
The deadline for the transition from ICD-9 to ICD-10 was October 1. So far, most physicians and practices seem to be adapting well, though there are some instances where things are not going as smoothly as hoped.

Meaningful Use Final Rules Released
CMS and ONC released new rules for all three stages of meaningful use this month, which includes changes to Stage 1 and Stage 2. The revised changes reduce the required number of reporting objectives for eligible professionals, hospitals and critical access hospitals. It was also announced that Stage 3 will not be delayed, but a public comment period will follow.
