Permanent Practice Medical Director – Neonatology
Job description
Weekend Requirements: Rotational weekend NICU coverage (24-hour shifts)
On-Call Requirements: Shared rotational 24-hour neonatal call coverage as part of the leadership team
Facility & Clinical Overview
Setting & Unit Size: Level IIIB NICU featuring 60 beds and ~625 annual admissions.
Multidisciplinary Environment: Work alongside pediatric subspecialists, including Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Pediatric Surgery.
Advanced Therapies Utilized: High-frequency ventilation, nitric oxide therapy, and advanced neonatal interventions.
Teaching & Academic Scope:
Academic affiliation involving teaching medical students, pediatric residents, and family medicine residents.
Active involvement in Grand Rounds, simulation Boot Camps, educational programming, and mentoring residents in quality improvement/research projects.
Leadership & Operational Responsibilities
Oversee clinical operations, provider performance, quality improvement, and patient safety initiatives.
Drive program development and clinical innovation within the neonatal service line.
Collaborate with executive hospital leadership and academic partners to expand regional neonatal services.

Candidate Submission & Qualification Requirements
Licensure & Certifications:
Education & Board Status: MD or DO degree required. Must be Board Certified in Neonatology [REQUIRED — Board Eligible candidates not accepted].
State Licensure & DEA: Active Virginia Medical License (or willingness to obtain) [REQUIRED]. Active DEA registration prior to start [REQUIRED].
Clinical & Leadership Experience:
Experience Level: Experienced candidates only; must have demonstrated clinical experience in Neonatology [REQUIRED].
Leadership Background: Prior leadership experience in a NICU or in clinical program development [REQUIRED].
Logistics & Legal Restrictions:
Locality & Residency: Requires immediate local residency or relocation to the Roanoke, VA area [REQUIRED].
NPDB Report: Active Self-Query NPDB report pulled within the last 30 days [REQUIRED at presentation — no exemptions].
Visa Status: Visa candidates (J-1/H-1B) are not accepted; candidate visa support status must be explicitly specified upon submission [REQUIRED].
