Urgent Coverage Need

Position Overview

* Start Date: October 19, 2026

* Contract Length: October 19, 2026 – January 4, 2027

* Reason for Need: Locum coverage while recruiting a full-time permanent Neurosurgery physician

Schedule & Call

* 24-hour shifts: 7:00 AM–7:00 AM

* Inpatient coverage with 24-hour call responsibility

* Coverage includes Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital and phone-only transfer consultations for Sentara Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

* Week of October 19

* Week of October 26

* November 2 at 7:00 AM – November 9 at 7:00 AM

* November 9 at 7:00 AM – November 16 at 7:00 AM

* November 16 at 7:00 AM – November 23 at 7:00 AM

* November 23 at 7:00 AM – November 30 at 7:00 AM

* November 30 at 7:00 AM – December 7 at 7:00 AM

* December 7 at 7:00 AM – December 14 at 7:00 AM

* December 14 at 7:00 AM – December 21 at 7:00 AM

* December 21 at 7:00 AM – December 28 at 7:00 AM

* December 28 at 7:00 AM – January 4, 2027 at 7:00 AM

Call Volume

* Weekend average callbacks: 2

* Weekend average admissions: 1–2

* Weeknight callbacks: 5–8 per day

* Weeknight admissions: 3–4 per week

Clinical Details

* Average daily caseload: 5–7 patients

* Support Staff: 2 flexible MDs and 1 PA

* General neurosurgery, spine, and cranial procedures

* Preferred experience: Adult general neurosurgery, spine, and cranial procedures

Requirements

* Board certification required

* Active Virginia medical license

* Virginia DEA or DEA with a Virginia address

* Must complete agency credentialing and vetting process

Credentialing & Compliance

* All malpractice claims, including dismissed claims, must be disclosed.

* Employment terminations must be explained.

* Gaps in employment of 30 days or more require a separate explanation.

* Any restrictive procedures or clinical limitations must be disclosed.

* Must meet Sentara immunization requirements.

* Travel needs must be specified at presentation.
