Neurosurgery Locum Opportunity – Rockingham, VA

Location: Rockingham, Virginia
Start Date: June 1, 2026
Assignment Dates: June 1 – December 31, 2026
Assignment Length: 6 months

Reason for Need:
Locum coverage is needed while the facility recruits a full-time permanent Neurosurgery MD/DO and continues building a new neurosurgery program.

Schedule:
24-hour call coverage. Shift runs Monday 7:00 AM – Monday 7:00 AM.

Caseload:
Average daily cases: 2. Weekend callbacks average 2. Weekend admissions average 2–3. Weeknight callbacks average about 5 calls per day. Weeknight admissions average 2–3 per week.

Required Skills / Procedures:
General spine cases and minor cranial procedures are required. Additional general spine experience is preferred.

Facility Details:
EMR is Epic and proficiency is preferred. Number of ORs is TBD. There are currently no provider staff in place, but there is full office support staff as the program is being newly developed.

Candidate Requirements:
Candidate must be a Board Certified Neurosurgery MD/DO and must possess an active Virginia medical license. A Virginia DEA is required. If the DEA is not currently registered in Virginia, the candidate must indicate their plan to obtain one, such as changing the address of their current DEA or purchasing an additional DEA. A current CV and completed SMG Locum screening form are required. Board certification must be verified with a copy of the online verification. All malpractice claims must be disclosed, including dismissed claims. An explanation is required for any employment termination. Any time gaps of 30 days or greater must include the date range and explanation as a separate attachment. Any potential red flags must be disclosed, along with any restrictive procedures or clinical limitations. Candidates must have completed your locum credentialing and vetting process.

Please specify travel needs when presenting candidates, including flight, lodging (hotel or other accommodations), and rental car if needed.
