Clinical Responsibilities:-
The OB/GYN Hospitalist will serve as the sole OB physician on-site during the 24-hour shift, providing comprehensive coverage for the OB Emergency Department and Labor & Delivery.

Responsibilities include:
Managing labor and performing deliveries
Managing unassigned and transfer OB patients
Evaluating and treating patients presenting to the OBED, with care initiated within 30 minutes
Managing high-acuity obstetric emergencies
Performing emergent vaginal deliveries and C-sections
Providing support to the OBED and L&D units
Coordinating admissions and transfers
Providing antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum care
Managing fetal monitoring and performing obstetric procedures
Providing courtesy deliveries when the primary OB/GYN is unavailable
Serving as the clinical lead during obstetric emergencies and rapid response events
Providing OB consultations
Supervising residents and medical students
Maintaining accurate documentation and order entry in Epic
Providing appropriate communication and handoffs

Practice Environment:
8-bed OBED
2,900+ deliveries annually
Approximately 1,389 OBED visits/year
Approximately 463 OBED visits result in deliveries
Residents are on-site
MFM is available on call
No midwives employed directly by the facility
Midwives from a MercyOne joint venture may partner with the OB Hospitalist for birth planning and deliveries
VBAC: Yes
Twin deliveries: Yes
No GYN responsibilities
No APP supervision required

Requirements:
Board Certified in OB/GYN required
Truly Board Eligible candidates may be considered
Active Iowa license, IMLC, or new-license candidate for 2027 dates
IMLC candidates must provide LOQ at name clear
Candidate must provide exact dates available and average number of shifts per month
Must provide a Self-Query NPDB report pulled within the current month
Candidate must meet malpractice/background requirements
Providers local to the Des Moines area are not accepted
