Location Description - Canal Place Heritage Area celebrates the spirit and hard work that made Cumberland a bustling hub of commerce and transportation during the 19th century. Located at the western end of the historic C&O Canal, this family-friendly destination is Maryland’s first Heritage Area. Visitor attractions at Canal Place include the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad, the Shops at Canal Place, the Great Allegany Passage and C&O Canal Towpath Trail, the C&O Canal Museum and the Canal Place Festival Grounds. The Allegany County Visitor Center is also located here.
