Position Details

Specialty: Surgical PA (Orthopedics)

Start Date: ASAP

Contract Length: Ongoing

Schedule: Monday–Friday

Call: Weekend call required (approximately 1 in every 4–6 weeks); includes phone consults and potential weekend rounds

Practice Settings: Ambulatory Surgery Center, Clinic, and Hospital

EMR: Athena

Hospital Size: 413 beds

Clinical Responsibilities

Assist in surgery across a wide range of orthopedic procedures, including stature lengthening, super hip, super knee, and complex anatomical reconstruction

Provide clinic coverage: high-volume pediatric-focused practice (90% pediatrics, 10% adults)

Typical clinic volumes supported by a 4–5 PA team:

Mondays: ~60 patients

Wednesdays: ~30 patients

Fridays: ~50 patients

Conduct inpatient rounding; may include weekend rounding during call rotation

Participate in pre- and post-operative care and consultations

Full-spectrum orthopedic involvement across clinic, OR, and inpatient settings

Training & Support

Onboarding includes dedicated clinic and OR shadowing with lead PA

Support staff includes MAs, X-ray techs, and a prosthetics department

Coverage need is equivalent to 1 full-time PA

Requirements

Board Certification: PA-C

Active Florida license

BLS required

DEA not required

Minimum 3 years of orthopedic surgery experience

Pediatric and adult ortho experience preferred; rare disease pediatric experience is a plus
