Orthopedic Sports Medicine Surgeon – Locum Tenens | Illinois

Job description

We are seeking a Fellowship‑Trained Orthopedic Sports Medicine Surgeon to support a vacancy within an established sports medicine program in Illinois. This is a 6‑month locum tenens assignment with a July or ASAP start, offering a balanced mix of clinic, OR, and shared call.
Assignment Details

Start Date: July or ASAP
Length of Assignment: 6 months
Reason for Vacancy: Sports medicine program vacancy
Schedule:

2 clinic days per week (8:00a–5:00p, one‑hour lunch)
2 OR days per week (OR start time 7:30a)
OR days currently Mondays and Fridays; flexibility available for the right candidate


Clinic Volume: 25–30 patients per day (current average)
Surgical Volume: Approximately 8–10 cases per week

Call Requirements

Weekend Call: 1 in 7 weekends

Friday 5:00p – Monday 7:00a
Alternating one weekday call (some weeks no call)


Weeknight Call:

Shared with 6 orthopedic surgeons
Some weeks no call, other weeks one night
Call nights coincide with a scheduled workday
Phone consults from the ER; physician rounds required per bylaws (patients seen within 24 hours of admission)

Bread‑and‑butter Sports Medicine
ACL, MCL, PCL reconstruction
Knee and ligament procedures
Meniscus repairs
Hip arthroscopy experience preferred
Traditional Sports Medicine fellowship‑trained case mix

6 Orthopedic Surgeons
11 physician providers total


APP Support:

APPs manage post‑op visits
APPs serve as first assists in the OR
APPs share ER call responsibilities from home



Credentialing & Licensure

Credentialing: Temporary privileges available; approximately 3 months
Licensure: Illinois license or IMLC‑eligible candidates accepted
