Locums – Physician – Orthopedic Surgery (Sports Medicine), Illinois

Position Overview
A Level II Trauma Center approximately 45 minutes from Chicago—is seeking a Sports Medicine fellowship-trained Orthopedic Surgeon for a 6-month locums assignment. This is an excellent opportunity to step into an established sports medicine program with strong surgical volume and full APP support.
Assignment Details
• Start Date: ASAP (July preferred)
• Contract Length: 6 months
• Schedule:
○ 2 Clinic Days: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (1-hour lunch)
○ 2 OR Days: Starting at 7:30 AM
○ Flexible scheduling for the right candidate
Clinical Responsibilities
• Clinic Volume: 25–30 patients per day
• Surgical Volume: 8–10 cases per week
• Case Mix:
○ ACL, MCL, PCL repairs
○ Knee ligament reconstruction
○ Meniscus procedures
○ General bread-and-butter Sports Medicine
○ Hip arthroscopy experience preferred
Call Requirements
• Weekend Call: 1 in 7 (Friday 5:00 PM – Monday 7:00 AM)
• Weeknight Call: Shared among 6 surgeons (0–1 nights per week)
• Responsibilities:
○ ER call coverage (phone consults)
○ Inpatient rounding (within 24 hours of admission per bylaws)
Practice Setting
• Level II Trauma Center
• EMR: Epic
• Team: 6 Orthopedic Surgeons; 11 total physician providers
Support Staff
• APPs (PA/NP):
○ First assist in OR
○ Manage post-op patients
○ Share ER call responsibilities
Requirements
• Board Certified/Board Eligible in Orthopedic Surgery
• Sports Medicine Fellowship required
• Active Illinois license or IMLC eligibility
• DEA required
Credentialing
• Approximately 3 months
• Temporary privileges available
