MercyOne Waterloo Medical Center is seeking a Board-Certified Orthopedic Surgeon for locum tenens call coverage at its Waterloo and Cedar Falls facilities. This assignment offers inpatient and call responsibilities only, with no clinic duties, and requires coverage of all listed assignment blocks.

Providers must be available for all requested coverage blocks:

September 14, 2026 (7:00 AM) – September 28, 2026 (7:00 AM)
November 6, 2026 (7:00 AM) – November 9, 2026 (7:00 AM)
December 14, 2026 (7:00 AM) – December 28, 2026 (7:00 AM)

Practice Responsibilities

24-hour orthopedic call coverage
Inpatient consultations and management
Evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of orthopedic injuries and conditions
Surgical and non-surgical management of musculoskeletal disorders
Emergency orthopedic consults and patient stabilization
Coverage for both MercyOne Waterloo Medical Center and MercyOne Cedar Falls Medical Center
Respond to and manage all incoming orthopedic calls to the facility (required)

Procedures & Case Mix
Provider will manage a broad range of orthopedic conditions, including:

Fractures and traumatic injuries
Musculoskeletal infections
Orthopedic tumors
Spine disorders and degenerative conditions
Hand, foot, knee, hip, shoulder, and elbow pathology
Primary and secondary muscular disorders
Orthopedic emergencies and ICU consults as needed

Support & Volumes

4 Orthopedic Physicians
4 Advanced Practice Providers
APP supervision not required
Average daily orthopedic census: 10–20 patients across both locations
Full imaging, laboratory, pharmacy, and surgical support available

Requirements

Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery
Fellowship Trained Orthopedic Surgeon
Active Iowa Medical License or Active IMLC Letter of Qualification (LOQ)
Experienced practicing orthopedic surgeon
Ability to cover all requested assignment dates
Clean malpractice and background history
Self-Query NPDB report dated within 30 days of presentation
DEA and all hospital credentialing requirements
