Locum Tenens Orthopedic Trauma Surgeon

Job description

We are seeking a fellowship-trained Orthopedic Trauma Surgeon for a locum tenens assignment in Ohio lasting up to one year. Full-time coverage is preferred, though flexible coverage arrangements will be considered.

Assignment Details
Contract length: Up to one year
Schedule: Monday–Friday
Typical hours: 6:00 AM–4:00 PM
Exact daily hours may vary based on overnight call responsibilities
Call anticipated a few days per month
Full-time coverage preferred
Flexible availability may be considered
Onsite coverage at Level I and Level III Trauma Centers

Clinical Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive orthopedic trauma care
Manage one or multiple trauma operating rooms
Treat complex pelvic, long-bone, and lower-extremity fractures
Review imaging and provide attending oversight for Emergency Department cases
Collaborate with residents, APPs, trauma surgeons, and other hospital-based specialists

Residents provide initial Emergency Department coverage, with the attending physician available to review imaging and guide care as needed.


Primary cases include:

Pelvic fractures
Long-bone fractures
Lower-extremity fractures
Hip and below trauma

The position does not include hand, wrist, or spine trauma.

Patient Population and Volume
Approximately 350–475 orthopedic trauma patients annually
Patients of all ages
Majority of patients are age 13 and older
Pediatric trauma is rare
Trauma Team and Support
Three Orthopedic Trauma Surgeons on staff
Approximately three PAs or NPs per shift
Approximately three residents per shift
Additional physician support available throughout the hospital

Qualifications
Fellowship training in Orthopedic Trauma Surgery
Board certification in Orthopedic Surgery
At least five years of experience
Significant Level I Trauma Center experience
Demonstrated ability to manage complex orthopedic trauma cases
Academic experience preferred
Current BLS and ACLS certifications

• 1 year assignment
• Some call coverage - couple days a month
• Willing to license
