Job ID: 32222719
PA - Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care - Locum Tenens - Dallas, TX Area
Job description
A leading academic medical center in the Dallas, TX area is seeking a Physician Assistant for a locum tenens assignment in Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care.
The Cardiac Intensive Care Unit is a 32-bed, high-acuity unit composed of a 20-bed main CICU and a 12-bed Intermediate Care Unit (IMU). It is a nationally recognized pediatric heart program that has performed the highest number of pediatric heart transplants in the country over the past three years.
The main CICU cares for the highest-acuity patients requiring intensive monitoring, complex post-operative care, and advanced support therapies including ECMO, CRRT, and ventricular assist devices. The IMU is evolving into a higher-acuity step-down setting and may include intubated patients (limited basis), tracheostomy/ventilator support, VADs, and continuous infusions (Milrinone, PGE, low-dose epinephrine). Patient population spans congenital and acquired cardiac conditions, advanced mechanical circulatory support (PediMag, CentriMag, HeartMate 3, Impella), ECMO, renal replacement therapies (including Aquadex), pulmonary hypertension management, and electrophysiology including temporary and permanent pacemaker management.
Staffing model: Critical Care and Cardiology Fellows and Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) report directly to attending physicians. Three rounding teams (A, B, C). Weekday provider-to-patient ratios are 1:6; weekends are 1:10 (main) and 1:12 (IMU). APPs are required to independently perform essential bedside procedures including removal of chest tubes, cardiac lines, pacing wires, and surgical drains.
Coverage: Scheduled, no call. Shift: 13-hour PM shifts (7p-8a). BC Critical Care Certification is required.
