Job description

A leading California medical center is seeking an experienced NP (CPNP-AC) or PA-C for a 26-week locum in Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery, starting ASAP. Providers will support stepdown cardiac care, focusing on congenital heart disease and post-heart transplant patients.

Schedule:

4x10s/week (variable shifts), occasional overtime if scrubbing into cases

1 weekend/month required

Day shift only

Patient Load:

Floor census: 3–8/day (usually 4–5 weekdays; heavier on weekends)

Population: Mostly pediatrics (approx. 92%), some adult patients

Key Responsibilities:

Manage cardiac stepdown patients and prepare them for discharge

Perform ICU consults

Consent families pre-surgery

Care for post-heart transplant patients (not pre-transplant)

Perform procedures such as chest tubes and intracardiac line removal

Support Team:
6 APPs, 2 fellows, and 3 surgical attendings

EMR: EPIC

🛠 Requirements:
License: Active California license required

Certifications:

NPs: CPNP-AC

PAs: Master’s degree in PA Studies

DEA with Schedule II authority

Experience (Must Have):

1+ year in cardiac care

Pediatric cardiac, adult CT surgery, transplant, or cardiac stepdown experience considered

No new grads

Strongly Preferred: Second assist experience

Credentialing: 60–90 days

• Full-Time Inpatient Role: 4x10s, occasional OT if scrubbed; 1 weekend/month
• Stepdown Cardiac Focus: Frontline management of post-op congenital heart disease patients
• Specialized Experience Required: Must have pediatric cardiac or adult CT/transplant/stepdown experience
