PCICU / CVPICU NP/PA Opportunity – San Francisco, California
Start Date: As soon as credentialed ~ 60-90 days
Contract Length: 6 months, option to extend
Schedule
Variable 12‑hour shifts (days, nights, weekends, holidays)
Must be able to provide 50% night or weekend coverage
Minimum: 4 × 12‑hour shifts/month
Call: Options for night/weekend call (not guaranteed)
Full‑time variable coverage required
Credentialing timeframe: 60–90 days
Practice Details
Setting: Inpatient PCICU / CVPICU (Hospital)
EMR: Epic
Avg census: 17–18 patients/day
Patient population:
Pediatrics + neonates
8% adult congenital
Majority surgical
High‑acuity cardiovascular cases
Significant heart failure population
Vent management, pre/post‑op, cardiac cath patients
Frequent ECMO, CRRT, transplant‑related care
Support Staff:
2 teams each with: 1 attending, 3 NPs, 1 fellow
Overnight: 1 attending + 2 NPs
Procedures:
APPs may perform IVs, arterial lines
Possible intubation or central lines (most done by fellow/attending)
Clinical Scope
Responsibilities include:
Managing high‑acuity PCICU patients across neonatal → pediatric → limited adult congenital
Cardiovascular critical care management
ECMO/CRRT/Bags experience strongly preferred
Pre-/post‑operative management
Ventilator management
Daily rounding, orders, assessments, documentation
Working within a large academic children’s hospital environment
Experience:
Minimum 1 year PCICU experience (no surgery/stepdown backgrounds accepted)
Pediatric cardiovascular critical care required
Heart failure experience preferred
Must be comfortable with high‑acuity, fast‑moving ICU workflows
Flexibility for nights/weekends required
Strong communication and ability to work within multidisciplinary teams
Requirements
Advanced Practice Provider – NP or PA
NP Board Certification: CPNP‑AC required
License: Active California license required (NPs must have CA; PAs may submit without CA license)
DEA: CA DEA with Schedule II
Certifications: AHA BLS & PALS required
Experience: Minimum 1 year of PCICU cardiovascular critical care
Furnishing License: Required for NP
COVID‑19 vaccine + booster (medical/religious exemptions allowed)

Credentialing
Standard inpatient credentialing
60–90 days (strict completion required)
Two interviews expected (manager + medical director)
Name clear required only for providers who have worked in the system before
