Pediatric Critical Care Locums – Greensboro, NC

Job description

We are seeking a Board-Certified Pediatric Critical Care Physician to provide night call coverage at a 4-bed PICU within a community hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina. This is a great opportunity to work in a collegial environment with resident support and flexible scheduling.

Position Details

Start Date: January 1, 2026 (client prefers an October start if possible due to urgency)

Coverage Type: MD Pediatric Critical Care

Schedule: Weeknights (Mon–Fri), 5p–8a, one week at a time – not every week (depends on provider availability; flexible scheduling)

Support Staff: Pediatric residents cover the unit; must be willing to supervise residents

Day Coverage: Not required but available if desired

Workload: Average census 1–3 (range 0–6); volume increases during winter months

Facility Type: Community Hospital – 6th Floor Pediatric Unit

Department Description: 4-bed PICU functioning like a step-down unit at a larger center. Heart surgery or heart disease patients are transferred out. No dialysis or ECMO. Intubations and ventilation required; very sick patients are transferred to higher-level facilities.

EMR: EPIC

Clinical Details

Patient Age Group: 0–17 years

Procedures: Central and arterial lines, mechanical ventilation, US-guided lines, Glidescope intubations, lumbar punctures, CVP lines, pediatric intubations

Vaccinations: COVID not required; flu vaccine required during flu season

Requirements

Board Certification: Pediatric Critical Care (required)

License: North Carolina

DEA: Required

Certifications: BLS, PALS (preferred but not required)

Experience: Open to all experience levels

Credentialing: Expedited—client pushing for October start due to partner on medical leave
