Pediatric Optometrist Needed in Oakland, CA

Specialty: Pediatric Optometrist

Start Date: 8/1/26
Contract Length: 26 Weeks (6 months)
Shift Details: 5x8 Monday – Friday
Schedule: 8a-5p

Work Details:
• Support staff: techs, ophthalmologists, optometrists
• Amount of coverage needed per month: full time, 5 shifts/week
• Patients per day: 12-14 patients per day, 30 min appts, 1st patient at 8a and last is 4:30 p, 30 min appts
• Patient population/age: mostly all pediatrics, they see some adults with developmental delays and double vision. It’s not mandatory for the locum to see adult pts.
• Department description: sees bread and butter and high acuity peds optometry patients, facility has all imaging devices needed, techs are there to run diagnostic imaging. Optometrists are responsible for works ups and patient care. Department sees patients of all cognitive abilities, with a lot of patients on the spectrum. A lot of patients that are co-managed by other peds specialties at the facility like those with seizures and facial abnormalities.
• EMR: epic
• Special procedures: prefer locums to do contact lens fitting and/or complex contact lens fitting for peds
• Skills required: Must have experience working with complex pediatric populations, Experience with pediatric optometry and strabismus/binocular vision exams

Practice Setting:
• Outpatient
• Hospital

Requirements:
• Education requirements: Doctor of Optometry degree (OD), residency in pediatric optometry highly preferred. Provider MUST have at least 3 years' experience working with pediatric populations in a medical center setting. Extensive exp working with ped population
• License required: CA license required
• Certifications required: BLS
• Minimum experience required: Open to different levels of exp if they have a peds residency. If no peds residency + 3 years of peds pop exp.

Credentialing Timeframe: 60-90 days
