LocumTenens.com Funds Medical Education in Partnership with Emory University to Help Future Doctors

Alpharetta, Ga., Dec. 15, 2015—Physician staffing firm LocumTenens.com is teaming with the Gifted Foundation to support medical education by assisting two current medical students at Emory University with tuition for one year.

The LocumTenens.com Future Physicians Scholarship Fund will be funded annually by LocumTenens.com and administrated by the Gifted Foundation, a career and life development organization that focuses on identifying future leaders. After an extensive screening process that focused on academics, leadership skills and service to the community, the first two recipients are Hope Caughron and Ryan Patton, both second year students in Emory’s School of Medicine. In addition to assisting the two students with covering their medical school tuition for a year, they will also have the opportunity to join a LocumTenens.com medical brigade on a future mission trip.

Caughron is a native of the Chicago area and earned her undergraduate degree from Northwestern University, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Economics and Global Health. She earned a Medical Staff Leadership Scholarship from Emory in August 2014. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honors Society and the American College of Physician Executives. She is involved with Project Medishare, which provides health resources and services in Haiti. She volunteered at the Emory School of Medicine’s student-run clinic, the Open Door Student Health Clinic, which provides weekly free services to Atlanta’s homeless population and other underserved patients.

An Arkansas native, Patton began medical school at Emory after receiving his undergraduate degree in Nursing from the University of Arkansas’ Eleanor Mann School of Nursing in 2011. In 2013, he was named a Teaching Fellow at Khan Academy after winning a national competition sponsored by the organization, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) based on his ability to create educational content around the medical college admissions test (MCAT). He currently serves as the student representative on Emory’s Executive Curriculum Committee.

“As a company that works with doctors daily, we see the common motivations that physicians have to serve their patients and improve the health of their communities,” said Lisa Kaeck, executive vice president, LocumTenens.com. “We also know the challenges that medical students face, not just with the hours of study, but the debt that many incur to be able to call themselves a physician. Student debt is one of the major barriers that stand in the way to creating more desperately-needed physicians in this country. Our team at LocumTenens.com is proud to support Hope and Ryan in obtaining their medical degrees.”

“At The Gifted Education Foundation, we consider it a high priority to identify students that exhibit an exceptional level of capacity for marketplace and community leadership. Upon discovering such talent, our team works diligently to position them for long-term success," said Anthony Flynn, CEO and Founder of the Gifted Foundation. "We are privileged to have worked with the executive leadership team of LocumTenens.com to identify Hope and Ryan as two of those candidates for the 2015-2016 academic calendar year. Our hope is that other companies will model this partnership in an effort to make a difference in the lives of students of promise.”
