Job description
Looking for a Psychiatrist for the Corrections Management Department for a major academic health science institution. This role will require the Psychiatrist to be onsite at the Corrections Facility located in Richmond, Tx to visit with clients and will require a 40-hour work week M-F. This role will require them work in a TDCJ inpatient facility spending each day providing direct psychiatric care to incarcerated patients in a secure clinical environment. The day typically begins with reviewing overnight reports, nursing notes, and any acute behavioral or medical alerts before entering the inpatient unit. Daily rounds follow, where the psychiatrist evaluates assigned patients, conducts psychiatric assessments, and performs physical or neurological examinations when needed. Medication management is a central part of the workflow, including monitoring treatment response, adjusting regimens, and documenting all encounters thoroughly in the electronic medical record to meet the client and TDCJ standards. Throughout the day, the psychiatrist collaborates closely with nursing staff, security officers, psychologists, and social workers to update treatment plans, coordinate care transitions, and address behavioral or safety concerns.
