Job description

Join a nationally recognized cardiovascular team at a Level I Trauma Center in beautiful Roanoke, VA. We are seeking an experienced Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant with Cardiac Surgery ICU experience for a 13-week locum assignment.

📍 Location: Roanoke, VA
📆 Assignment Length: 13 Weeks
🏥 Facility: Roanoke Memorial Hospital (733 Beds | Level I Trauma Center)

Schedule

• Day Shift: 7:00 AM – 8:00 PM
• Night Shift: 7:00 PM – 8:00 AM
• Typically work alongside 1–2 providers per shift

Practice Details

• Cardiothoracic Surgery ICU
• 12-bed Cardiac Surgery ICU
• Adult patient population
• Average daily census of 6–12 patients plus consults
• EMR: Epic

Clinical Responsibilities

Manage critically ill patients recovering from complex cardiothoracic procedures, including:

• Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG)
• Valve Surgery
• Aortic Surgery
• Thoracic Surgery

Collaborate with physicians and APP colleagues in the management of advanced mechanical circulatory support devices, including:

• ECMO
• Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps (IABP)
• Impella
• LVAD
• RVAD

Procedural Opportunities

Providers will have the opportunity to perform and further develop skills in:

• Central Venous Catheter Placement
• Arterial Line Placement
• Dialysis Catheter Placement
• Bronchoscopy
• Chest Tube Management

Additional Responsibilities

• Order and interpret diagnostic studies
• Respond to emergent and critical situations
• Deliver evidence-based perioperative and critical care management
• Focus on patient satisfaction, quality outcomes, and multidisciplinary collaboration

Requirements

✅ Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) or Physician Assistant (PA)
✅ Cardiac Surgery ICU experience required
✅ No surgical first assist experience required
✅ Comfortable practicing in a high-acuity critical care environment
✅ Strong communication and teamwork skills

• Comfortable working autonomously in a fast-paced ICU setting
• Passionate about clinical excellence and patient-centered care
• Interested in advanced cardiovascular critical care and procedural development
