MACRA: What You Need to Know Now

Since Congress voted to replace the Sustainable Growth Rate, CMS has been working on the implementation of the new Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA). A proposed final rule was submitted for public comment in May, and physicians, hospitals and other healthcare organizations weighed in with proposed changes and concerns. Due to the feedback, CMS Acting Administrator Andy Slavitt revealed the agency is considering delaying the start of MACRA.

Video Technology Reduces Children’s Anxiety During Radiation Therapy

Children undergoing radiation therapy often face anxiety and stress, which can lead to negative short-term and long-term emotional and physical effects. Instead of providing potentially harmful anxiety medication to a child’s developing brain, a pair of anesthesiologists developed a safer and more cost-effective method to reduce stress before surgical procedures or during radiation therapy, called BERT (Beside Entertainment Theater). BERT is a portable video unit able to attach to mobile hospital beds or units, providing close-up entertainment to a child during all phases their visit.
