We’re seeking a Sports Medicine fellowship‑trained Orthopedic Surgeon for a locum tenens opportunity in Aurora, Illinois, supporting a Level II Trauma Center with a high‑volume sports medicine service. This is a clinic + OR role with shared call, strong APP support, and a bread‑and‑butter sports case mix.

Highlights

Locum Tenens – 1099
Start Date: July 6, 2026 (ASAP considered)
Assignment Length: 6 months
Level II Trauma Center
Mix of clinic and OR time
Strong APP support (first assist + post‑op care)
EMR: Epic
Travel covered
Temporary privileges available (~3 months)


Schedule

4 days per week total

2 clinic days: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (1‑hour lunch)
2 OR days: start 7:30 AM


OR days currently Monday & Friday (flexible for the right provider)
Balanced clinic/OR workflow


Call Requirements

Weekend call: ~1 in 7 weekends

Friday 5:00 PM – Monday 7:00 AM


Weeknight call: Shared with 6 surgeons

Some weeks no call, others up to 1 night
ER phone consults + inpatient rounding as required by bylaws


APPs assist with:

ER calls overnight
OR first assist
Post‑op management




Clinical Focus & Case Mix

Traditional Sports Medicine Orthopedics
Required experience:

Multi‑ligament knee procedures (ACL / MCL / PCL)
Hip arthroscopy
Meniscus and ligament reconstruction


High‑volume sports practice
Approximate volume:

25–30 clinic patients/day
8–10 surgeries/week




Practice Environment

Level II Trauma Center
Orthopedic service includes:

6 Orthopedic Surgeons
11 physician providers total


APPs handle post‑op visits and OR first assist
Collaborative, team‑based coverage model


Requirements

Sports Medicine fellowship‑trained Orthopedic Surgeon
Required skills:

Multi‑ligament knee reconstruction
Hip arthroscopy


Active Illinois license or IMLC
DEA required
Comfortable in clinic, OR, trauma consult, and call coverage
Strong communication skills
