Job description
Position Overview
Established orthopedic program seeking a Sports Medicine fellowship-trained Orthopedic Surgeon to provide clinic, OR, and call coverage at a Level II Trauma Center. This is a well-balanced opportunity with a strong case mix and dedicated APP support.
Facility Details
Level II Trauma Center located approximately 45 minutes outside downtown Chicago
Established orthopedic team with 6 surgeons and 11 total physician providers
Start Date
ASAP
Assignment Length
6-month contract
Schedule
4-day work week
2 clinic days (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, 1-hour lunch)
2 OR days (starting at 7:30 AM)
OR currently scheduled on Mondays and Fridays (flexible based on provider availability)
Call Requirements
Weekend call: 1 in 7 weekends (Friday 5:00 PM – Monday 7:00 AM)
Weeknight call: Shared among 6 surgeons
Some weeks no call; others include 1 night per week
Call typically aligns with scheduled workday
Responsibilities include:
Taking ER call
Rounding on admitted patients within 24 hours per facility bylaws
Clinical & Surgical Details
Clinic volume: 25–30 patients per day
Surgical volume: Approximately 8–10 cases per week
Case mix includes:
ACL, MCL, PCL repairs
Meniscus procedures
Knee and multi-ligament reconstructions
Hip arthroscopy (required)
Bread-and-butter Sports Medicine caseload
Support Staff
APP support available
Assist with post-op care
First assist in the OR
Share ER call responsibilities from home
EMR
Epic
Requirements
Board Certified/Board Eligible Orthopedic Surgeon
Sports Medicine fellowship required
Experience with hip arthroscopy and multi-ligament procedures required
Active Illinois license or IMLC eligibility required
Credentialing
Approximately 3 months (temporary privileges available)
Additional Notes
Balanced mix of clinic and OR time
Collaborative team environment with strong APP support
Flexibility in scheduling for the right candidate
